Information about Marsa Alam
Marsa Alam is an Egyptian tourist city affiliated to the Red Sea Governorate. It is considered one of the newly established cities. Its development began in 1995 through the investments of the Kuwaiti Al-Kharafi Group, which adopted the establishment of the city with all its facilities, resorts and infrastructure, to make Marsa Alam one of the most attractive places in Egypt for tourism. The city is located on an area of 38,433 square km, 274 km south of Hurghada, and 134 km south of El Quseir, and its altitude ranges from about 60 meters above sea level. It is inhabited by about 11,497 residents, most of whom are from the Ababda and Bashariya tribes. It is followed by three villages: Berenice, Abu Al-Hassan Al-Shazly, and Abu Ghosoun. The city is considered a global center for fishing, diving and cruises. It also has an international airport, a yacht marina, a conference center, beside resorts and luxury hotels. Its desert is active in gold prospecting at the Sukari mine.
