St. Catherine Reserve is a natural and cultural reserve located on a high plateau in southern Sinai, surrounded by high mountains and an area of about 4250 km2. It was declared a reserve in 1988, and the work of the reserve was activated in 1996. Saint Catherine’s Reserve is affiliated to the Environmental Affairs Agency, Ministry of State for Environmental Affairs, Egypt.
The region is characterized by containing the highest mountain peaks in Egypt, and also contains many plant and animal life, where there are about 30 species of rare reptiles and 472 rare plant species, including medicinal and poisonous, and 19 types of endemic plants that do not grow anywhere in the globe Only protected mountains.
